About Us
Our Story
Chesapeake Gold Farms got its name in 2000 when Bob and Diane Miller purchased the farm from Bob's family. Before that, the farm was named Pleasant View Farms. Bob graduated from the University of Delaware in the 80s and came back to the farm full time after graduation. He built the milking parlor from scratch and was only milking about 60 cows at that time. With his wife, Diane, they continued to build the farming business from dairy to a more diverse selection of crops and hay and now, the value-added products. The farm has been in the Miller family since the 1800s and the sixth generation is Bob and Diane’s three sons, Wes, Matt, and Ben.
Wes manages the herd and crops that are used for feed. Wes’ wife, Amanda, loves all aspects of the farm but her interests especially lie in the cheese business. She is currently the marketing manager for our value-added products, but she has been studying cheesemaking for 11 years and will hopefully be making cheese on the farm one day. She also manages the flower business.
Matt has a job off the farm but is still rooted in the local agriculture community as a sales representative for Ramsey Ford in Rising Sun, MD. Matt and his wife, Emily, help from time to time on the farm when their schedules allow. Ben, the youngest, manages the hay and straw business.
Diane is the FFA teacher at Oxford High School and a longtime 4-H volunteer. She built the genetics in our Guernsey herd and has instructed her sons and other 4-Hers all about showing dairy in the farm’s dairy leasing program.
Our Practices
As farmers, we take great pride in our work. The work on the farm consists of long days and a lot of factors that are completely out of our control such as the weather. We are in this profession because we love it and have a passion for it. We have a love for caring for and nurturing living things through our crops and our cows and we believe that taking extra care will give you the best.
We ventured into selling products from our farm in 2018 because we wanted to offer high quality products that originated on our farm and had nothing else added to them.
Our milk is produced from the cows that we raise from birth and they eat crops that we grow. We then have our milk made into cheese that has zero additives or preservatives. The same goes for our butter and beef. You are left with purely natural products that speak to the care and love we give our animals.
